Mount Vernon, NY, [September 22, 2016 ] – On the heels of a massive celebration of the arts along the streets of the City, the Festival will continue that celebration at the Westchester Community College Mount Vernon Extension Center when it hosts the Third Annual Mount Vernon Film Festival (MTVFF) beginning Thursday September 22nd. “We teamed up this year with Westchester Community College in order to inspire and support talent in our community,” said Osiris Imhotep, film festival director.
Westchester Community College and the Mount Vernon Film Festival will hold a press conference on Wednesday August 31st, 2016 at 10:30am at the Westchester Community College Mount Vernon Extension Center, 17 S. Fifth Avenue, Mount Vernon, NY announcing the event. In attendance will be members of the Mount Vernon Film Festival as well as filmmakers, directors of submitted films, Greater Centennial A.M.E. Zion, the Boys & Girls Club of Mount Vernon, Classic Audi of Mount Vernon and other community leaders.
The Mount Vernon Film Festival objective is to promote awareness in independent music, media and art across the globe while encouraging those attending to develop a greater appreciation and understanding for cultural diversity in film. Supported by a number of local and outside organizations, the festival will showcase extraordinary films from both independent and established filmmakers, emerging and aspiring artists, and directors using different media formats to produce quality films. “As a filmmaker who has traveled around the world to various film festivals, it’s a labor of love seeing this happen in my hometown,” said Imhotep. “The festival will afford young people an opportunity to be engaged with other filmmakers on a level that I never had at their age.”
“The Mount Vernon Film Festival will offer some unique opportunities for creative access and partnership to Westchester Community College students and faculty,” commented Francine Carl, director of the center. “I am excited that Mr. Imhotep approached the college to host this year’s festival.”
As part of this year’s partnership any student or alumnae of Westchester Community College or SUNY can submit a film for free. The festival will feature films from several different countries.
